Welcome to
Lonnie Minion - PSV
Tracy works for CPChem as a Field Support Engineer and does PRD work. As a training tool, so that people can actually see what’s inside a PSV, she recently obtained a PSV that had been taken out of service.
As you can see it was mounted on an unattractive piece of scrap plywood, not ideal for the office environment. So she asked me if I could make a base for it. (And she told me that she wanted to paint it to look like a minion.)
[I have to say that I found this idea that PSVs are minions to be very insightful.
I hadn’t ever thought of it this way, but, PSVs really are the minions of a process plant, tireless underlings doing our bidding in protecting the plant equipment from overpressure.
And there are even some that are evil and chatter unintelligibly.
I have to say, however, that I have never heard one yell BA-NA-NA in the Universal Studio's fashion.]
Of course the request to make a base translates to “play in the shop” in retirese. So…
Find a piece of wood for the base…
look up the proper dimensions for the pipe and flange…
fabricate the base…
Hmm… minions have black boots on their feet.
Let’s see… some ¾ pvc pipe, elbows and caps…
glue them together…
cut of the bottom part…
paint gloss black…
(I wonder if these will pass the test for safety shoes?)…
Oh, and minions wear goggles
(I guess they have to wear their PPE when they are in the plant like we humans do)…
Grab some bigger pvc fittings…
ah nuts, they don’t fit together quite right…
chuck them in the lathe and turn them so they fit together…
mill some slots…
paint…
And there you have it.
Meet Lonergan Minion - PSV.
That's his full name, but he doesn't like the formality, so he asks that his friends call him Lonnie.
